Siemens Mobility US is looking for aspiring manufacturing operations experts to come aboard for a 10–12-week internship journey where they will get exposure to what happens behind the scenes to make the rail world go round.

As our Operations Intern, you will join one of our key departments and learn about manufacturing best practices and have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the work we do to ensure that production operations are ready to go on time and with all required infrastructure, material, fixtures, and instructions.

A little bit about us

Siemens Mobility provides efficient and coordinated transportation of people and goods by rail – including rolling stock, rail automation, rail electrification, and service. We craft and manufacture across the entire spectrum of rolling stock, including commuter and regional passenger trains, light rail and streetcars, metros, locomotives, passenger coaches, and high-speed trainsets. Cities and Railroads also rely on us to provide traction-power substations and electricity transmission, as well as signaling and control technology for freight and passenger rail and transit systems.

Our Rolling Stock team works on delivering product offerings such as light rail vehicles, electric locomotives, diesel-electric locomotives, and passenger coaches. Our operations team ensures that departments like employee health & safety, supply chain management, logistics, car shell welding, bogie fabrication and assembly, electrical subassembly, gluing, painting, and vehicle final assembly run smoothly. 

What you will be doing:

The Operations intern will learn how every department contributes to the successful operation of a manufacturing facility of large scale.

Introduction to basic safety practices in factory environments

Project management skills like developing/implementing plans

Finance skills like calculation of Return on Investments (ROI). Depreciation planning, Asset planning

Logistics management skills like planning, storing, and tracking delivery of materials

Supply Chain management skills of planning and ordering materials, economic batch planning for optimized logistics.

Exposure to Industrial engineering methods using lean techniques, layout planning for continuous improvement projects within manufacturing areas. Development of tools and jigs to make work easier.

Exposure to any one of our manufacturing areas on how day-to-day work is managed and executed. Learn how to read drawings or schematics.

Introduction to CAD software or other business software applications

Developing training methods/documentation for On-the-job training activities in welding and assembly operations

Basic Qualifications:

Must be pursuing a bachelor’s or advanced degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university, with at least 1-2 years completed to date.

Legal authorization to work in the US is required

Must reside or go to school near internship location

Desire to work in a team environment and a hands-on approach

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred cumulative GPA of 3.0

Previous internship experience or relevant school projects

Strong communication skills – verbal and written

Ability to work on a team
