Description

JOB SUMMARY

The position is responsible for the tire servicing needs of Mountain View Co-op (MVC) customers. This includes performing automotive work for the repair, maintenance, and replacement of tires. The Tire Technician (TT) must maintain a positive and cooperative attitude that promotes teamwork, integrity, honesty, and helpfulness. Compliance with MVC and industry standards for safety, and preventative and scheduled maintenance is necessary. Furthermore, the TT must embrace and exhibit MVC’s philosophy and culture of customer service.

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

Reports to the Tire Shop Manager.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish and maintain a positive customer service experience.

  • Establish and maintain a positive experience for MVC customers, clients, and vendors, through professional interpersonal interactions.

  • Report for duty in a fit condition, complying with the location dress code and acceptable personal hygiene.

  • Handle any customer complaints in a prompt and professional manner.

  • Provide feedback to Managers.

  • Prepare tires for installation; mount and demount tires on rims and vehicles, and fill tires to the proper air pressure.

  • Inspect and test tires to ensure conformance to standards.

  • Examine and probe damaged, defective, or flat tires to determine the extent of damage and the feasibility of repair, and recommend the disposal of non-repairable tires.

  • Rotate and balance wheels and tire assemblies to minimize wear on tires.

  • Rotate wheels at prescribed mileage intervals.

  • Respond to emergency calls and perform roadside service to repair/replace damaged tires.

  • Operate and maintain diagnostic equipment, hand/power tools, tire-changing machines, balancing equipment, and other specialized automotive tools and machinery.

  • Practice safety methods in the operation of equipment and performance of duties.

  • Inventory and ensure an adequate supply of tires and related parts, and order supplies as needed.

  • Prepare paperwork including; work orders, part usage records, tire weight records, etc.

  • Locate punctures in tubeless tires by visual inspection or other means.

  • Replace valve stems and remove puncturing objects.

  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties.

  • Observe and listen to machinery operation to detect equipment malfunctions.

  • Manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms on machinery.

  • Perform minor engine repair including changing air and oil filters.

  • Drive various MVC equipment.

  • Notify manager when equipment malfunctions.

  • Assist in any facility and equipment maintenance when applicable.

  • Practice and encourage workplace safety.

  • Handle and work in proximity to flammable materials, such as diesel fuel, unleaded gasoline, kerosene, and propane, as well as toxic chemicals, such as herbicides and other agricultural chemicals which affect public safety or public health.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge and understanding of:

  • Customer service

  • Tire repair and maintenance

  • Tools, materials, methods, and practices utilized in tire repair and maintenance

  • Equipment operation and maintenance

  • Safety rules, procedures, and practices

    Ability to:

  • Establish effective working relationships with management, co-workers, and the general public.

  • Report to work on-time and as scheduled.

  • Communicate effectively with others in both technical and non-technical terms.

  • Follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Operate front-end loader and forklift.

  • Travel to various locations as needed.

  • Work the hours required of the position which may include evenings, nights, and weekends.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education/Experience/Training:

  • High School diploma or GED

    Preferred Experience:

  • Prior customer service experience

    License/Certification:

  • Forklift Certification or ability to obtain is preferred

  • Valid Driver’s License issued by the State of Montana

  • Clarity of speech and hearing that permits the employee to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.

  • Manual dexterity that permits the employee to operate tools and equipment.

  • Personal mobility that permits the employee to enter, operate, and exit motor vehicles.

  • Ability to lift 70 pounds.

  • Ability to walk, stand, and reach for the duration of the shift.

  • Ability to occasionally stoop, kneel, and climb.

  • Ability to navigate uneven terrain.

    Working Conditions:

  • Work is generally performed outdoors and in a warehouse environment.

  • Travel is required in all weather conditions.

  • Various noise levels are present in the work environment, from low to moderately loud.
