Job Description

The Value Stream Manager will provide leadership to the assigned Value Stream(s) in a manner to achieve an efficient and effective manufacturing operation. Responsible for meeting objectives in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Inventory as well as increasing the ratio of value to non-value-added activity eliminating waste in the overall value stream from supply chain to customer and for ensuring that the value stream meets or exceeds customer requirements.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The primary responsibility of the Value Stream Manager is to lead the identified value stream team to achieve operational goals in the areas of Safety/Environmental, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Inventory through use of established processes and lean methodologies.

The Value Stream Manager is responsible to:

  • Provide leadership to the value stream in daily operations and continuous improvement; provide communication to all value stream team associates to ensure understanding and attainment of SQDCI performance objectives.

  • Lead the value stream team of production leaders, planners, manufacturing techs, production and test associates; be highly visible to associates and create a safe environment for participation and promote hands-on, high involvement approaches to problem solving.

  • Develop, track and report visual metrics and KPI’s; react to metrics by identifying and solving problems, making improvements and advancing process control; The VSM insures that metrics are understood by all members of the value stream and that results are maintained and displayed on a timely basis;

  • Champion the value stream gemba walk and employ problem solving methodology to determine root cause and develop countermeasures for misses to daily targets;

  • Ensure proper staffing levels; including the hiring, firing and disciplinary action; determine required production hours and use overtime to fill short term gaps; build a highly skilled, highly regarded and highly motivated customer focused team. Practices positive employee relations and develops self & others; ensure the proper application of established employee regulations, policies, wage and salary administration policies, and safety and health regulations. Ensure cultural diversity is maintained and enhanced; Provide coaching, information, ideas, feedback and encouragement to team leaders, associates and managers to promote the growth and development of the value stream team.

  • Be a change agent and drive out waste throughout the manufacturing operation through the deployment of the Lean methodology; drive a continuous improvement culture by involving employees in problem solving and decision making as well as recognizing them for exceptional work; Recommend and implement changes regarding production capability, tooling, machine replacement and staffing in support of production plans as well as cost-effective procedures, systems, tooling, equipment, etc., to continually improve manufacturing productivity; support new process and product development and implementation

  • Provide effective cross training for Value Stream associates and backups from other value streams to assure the continuous smooth running of the value stream. Encourage team to stop and fix problems to get quality right the first time; enforce strict adherence to established, documented processes related to Safety/Environmental programs, Quality Management System, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

BA or BS in business, engineering or related field or equivalent experience.

3 years in a Manufacturing Leadership Role or equivalent.

Demonstrated understanding of Lean Manufacturing concepts.
