Position Description

Job Summary

This position is primarily responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and production of gypsum wallboards following the Palatka plant’s policies and objectives. This position is responsible for setting a high standard for safety, quality, housekeeping, productivity, and performance for all wallboard and plant associates. The General Foreman is also responsible for empowering associates to make sound and timely decisions and resolve problems during operation.

  • Demonstrate visible Safety Leadership by identifying unsafe conditions and actively engaging in safety conversations with Plant personnel educating their team about safety protocols and implementing rules strictly to reduce the risk of on-site accidents.

  • Communication of all safety and environmental issues/concerns by Plant associates.

  • Responsible for the development of Production Supervision and their development of their respective teams.

  • Responsible for ensuring all Health & Safety, Quality, Human Resource, and Compliance training is completed for direct reports and subordinates.

  • Support and lead a culture of continuous improvement for the production line.

  • Effectively communicate priorities and objectives to the production team.

  • Ability to delegate tasks to employees based on their skills and expertise ensuring jobs are completed proficiently.

  • Coach and develop direct reports by having routine performance conversations.

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Board Line and provide upward communication when safety, quality, and/or performance issues arise.

  • Ensure autonomous maintenance procedures are developed and implemented.

  • Ensure consistent and fair application of plant policies as defined by the employee handbook.

  • Seeks and provides recommendations on streamlining and improving plant processes.

  • Analyze waste and downtime and find opportunities for improvements and/or elimination.

  • Ensures operations is operating within tolerances set out by Production and Quality Managers

  • Effectively communicates with Production Supervisors to ensure clear and precise directions on plant goals, objectives, plans, and departmental growth.

  • Ability to hold direct reports and subordinates accountable for safety, quality, housekeeping, and performance, verifying that work aligns with the design plans and meets required standards.

  • Oversee and monitor production schedules, vacations, vacation coverages, employee time, overtime, and attendance.

Required Qualifications

What do you bring?

  • Bachelor's Degree (preferred).  Excellent planning, organization, leadership, presentation, decision-making, analytical, oral, and written communication skills are required. 

  • Five years of supervisory experience in a continuous-operation industrial environment

  • Five years of gypsum wallboard manufacturing

  • Strong knowledge of the gypsum processing industry is a plus. 

  • Must be able to work flexible hours to support 24-7 operations

  • 10% Travel.
