MRI Tech - Per Diem Opportunity - Day Shift

Rate: $52.50

Summary:

Provides quality care and meets customer expectations by utilizing advanced technical skills in MRI imaging.

Responsibilities:

  1. MRI Safety and Screening Criteria A: Completes appropriate screening before entry into Zone 3 of MRI Department and is able to clear safety issues by following departmental policies and obtaining pertinent/applicable documentation. MRI Safety and Screening Criteria B: Uses hearing protection, cushions for safety/comfort, emergency call button and communicates with the patient throughout the exam. MRI Safety and Screening Criteria C: Monitors SAR Levels and keeps them within guidelines as well as instructing patients on the importance of not interlacing fingers or crossing legs. MRI Safety and Screening Criteria D: Ensures that patients who require GFR clearance, orbit X-rays and/or pregnancy waivers are identified and all issues are resolved in a timely manner.

  2. Patient Identification and Preparation Criteria A: Properly identifies patients by name/DOB as well as introducing himself/herself to the patient by first name. Patient Identification and Preparation Criteria B: Reviews prescription for accuracy and completeness; completes and initials screening/history form. Patient Identification and Preparation Criteria C: Advises patients on proper exam preparation including dietary restrictions, removal of jewelry and appropriate attire. Patient Identification and Preparation Criteria D: Explains the MRI procedure thoroughly, anticipates claustrophobic tendencies and addresses all exam questions and/or concerns.

  3. Oral and IV Contrast Administration Criteria A: Performs venipuncture for contrast administration utilizing aseptic technique when starting heplocks or butterfly injections. Oral and IV Contrast Administration Criteria B: Operates power injectors following manufacturer guidelines and selects the appropriate injection protocol for the specific exam. Oral and IV Contrast Administration Criteria C: Chooses the correct contrast type and amount according to Radiologist protocol. Oral and IV Contrast Administration Criteria D: Dispenses oral contrast to patients appropriately and gives clear instructions.

  4. Image Acquisition Criteria A: Reviews prescription and protocol for appropriateness based on clinical information provided. Image Acquisition Criteria B: Selects required coil and accessories as well as positions patients correctly for optimal imaging. Image Acquisition Criteria C: Correct selection and proficiency in scanning established MRI protocols. Image Acquisition Criteria D: Covers appropriate anatomy and utilizes proper scan parameters.

  5. Workflow and Data Accuracy Criteria A: Respects scheduled appointment times and communicates delays to reception staff and/or patients directly. Workflow and Data Accuracy Criteria B: Reviews charge entry and notifies appropriate administrative staff with necessary changes. Workflow and Data Accuracy Criteria C: Completes charge sheet accurately ensuring the CPT4 code matches the exam performed. Workflow and Data Accuracy Criteria D: Starts and completes examination in ADS workflow and records required information on log sheets.

  6. Exam Completion Criteria A: Evaluates MRI images for technical quality, repeats scans as necessary and provides concise relevant history to the Radiologist for interpretation. Exam Completion Criteria B: Performs required post processing and/or transfers appropriate images to dedicated workstations. Exam Completion Criteria C: Ensures prior exams and reports are available for comparison. Exam Completion Criteria D: Scans accompanying paperwork, annotates contrast administered/amount then verifies images in PACS.

  7. Responding to Urgent Situations Criteria A: Responds immediately in the event of a quench to evacuate patients and staff from harm. Able to undock the MRI table quickly. Responding to Urgent Situations Criteria B: Promptly responds to contrast reactions and/or other situations which require a timely response. Responding to Urgent Situations Criteria C: Able to locate and use all necessary emergency equipment (code cart, oxygen, blood pressure monitor, pulse oximeter, etc). Responding to Urgent Situations Criteria D: Able to recognize specific psychological (ie. claustrophobia, anxiety) and/or physical needs of patients and determine when further assistance is needed.

  8. Infection Control Criteria A: Follows universal precautions including the use of gloves, gowns and masks as appropriate. Infection Control Criteria B: Cleans and disinfects MRI suite between each patient (coils, cushions, table, IV room). Infection Control Criteria C: Disposes of needles and syringes in designated sharps containers, comprehends safe fill levels and seals containers appropriately for pick-up. Infection Control Criteria D: Keeps work area, waiting rooms and dressing rooms clean and tidy.

  9. Miscellaneous Responsibilities Criteria A: Assists Radiologist in interventional procedures such as MRI Guided Breast Biopsy. Miscellaneous Responsibilities Criteria B: Stocks work area with laundry and medical supplies on a daily basis. Miscellaneous Responsibilities Criteria C: Initiates equipment service requests, updates service logbook and notifies supervisor as necessary. Miscellaneous Responsibilities Criteria D: Maintains MRI departmental quality control standards and updates all necessary logs as required.

  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

  11. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

Other information:

Required: Graduate of an approved school of Radiologic Technology

Minimum of 3 years of MRI experience (GE preferred)

Minimum Experience: three years

Desired: ARRT Certification in Radiography

ARRT Certification in MRI within 1 year of hire

CT State License

CPR

Maintains continuing education requirements (24 CE credits per biennium)

Strong knowledge of MRI Safety

Possesses excellent knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and physiology

Exhibits a degree of professionalism necessary to instill patient confidence

Maintains a positive attitude and demonstrates respect and courtesy
