Location: Wallin Medical Biosciences Building - 2101 6th St SE, Minneapolis, MN 55455. Responsibilities: Primary duties will include - Providing support to ongoing research projects. (40%) - Independently conduct production of recombinant proteins for Immunoassays using E.coli, insect cells or mammalian cells. This includes maintaining cell cultures, cloning expression constructs, transformation / transfection, purification using affinity chromatography. Maintain quality control using SDS-PAGE and Western blots. Work with FPLC systems for protein purification. (30%) - Understand and analyze data collected from immunology experiments and prepare for publications. Responsible for modifying and developing new protocols. Provide training to junior researchers and students on techniques. (20%) - Screening, weaning and general maintenance of a mouse colony. Responsible for preparing and sending samples for Genotyping following laboratory procedure. (10%) - General lab support Maintaining a safe, clean, and organized workplace Monitoring and ordering supplies. Maintaining and servicing lab equipment as needed Assistance with onboarding of new students (undergraduate, graduate, rotation) or lab staff Maintain/renew Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and (Institutional Biosafety Committee) approvals. Coordinating/managing inspections by institutional oversight divisions ** A student worker will be available to help with the maintenance tasks. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in the Life Sciences (e.g., Biochemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Neuroscience, Physiology) and 2+ years of experience working in Biomedical Research in Academic or Industrial setting (note: college coursework with lab component does not meet this criterion). OR a combination of education and work experience to equal six years. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in relevant field (Years taken for Master's research will be considered for research experience) Experience with basic molecular biology procedures such as DNA isolation, PCR, basic cloning techniques, sequence analysis, agarose gel electrophoresis, SDS-PAGE and western blots Experience with Recombinant protein production and purification (affinity chromatography) Experience with basic cell culture procedures - bacterial, insect and mammalian Experience with mouse models, mouse handling and husbandry Experience in general lab management The individual should be highly self-motivated and willing to work flexible hours About the Department The Department of Microbiology and Immunology is a community of scholars committed to discovering and disseminating knowledge about the microbial world.
