About Turkey Run State Park:

Turkey Run State Park is the second park to join the Indiana state park system. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is in the path of the 2024 solar eclipse. Multiple indigenous tribes inhabited the area. The park is thought to be named for the wild turkeys that gathered in the deep sandstone ravines ("runs"). The 2,382-acre forested park offers camping, fishing, hiking, horse rides, and an Inn. The Colonel Richard Lieber Cabin commemorates the contributions of the father of Indiana's state park system.

Role Overview:

The Maintenance Repair Supervisor is responsible for providing oversight of a complex maintenance management system. The incumbent will supervise repairs associated with the property facilities which include, but are not limited to the following; plumbing and electrical systems, water and wastewater treatment facilities and their respective distribution systems, and HVAC systems. The incumbent will routinely use standard operating procedures, departmental guidelines, federal and State regulations, and industry construction standards to perform their duties.

Salary Statement:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $37,648.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Oversee and participate in the maintenance and repair of property equipment, buildings, and other assets of the state.

  • Serve as the heavy equipment operator for property.

  • Perform diagnostic training by troubleshooting equipment and facilities to determine problems and suggests cost effective solutions to management.

  • Perform of a variety of maintenance activities related to painting, carpentry, plumbing, and cleaning building systems.

  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment.

  • Report violations of rules and regulations to the management staff or law enforcement.

  • Direct the work of intermittent employees and/or volunteers.

  • Provide supervision, management, prioritization, instruction, and training for safe and efficient completion of work by assigned staff.

  • Train other employees who assist with his/her duties.

  • Ensure that all staff are properly trained in safety regulations, procedures, and precautions.

  • Order and inventory needed supplies.

  • Prepare detailed estimates of new or repair projects.

  • Provide safe and effective mechanical preventative maintenance to equipment, machinery, buildings, and grounds.

  • Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.

  • Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment and other associated tools.

  • Knowledge of how to read and understand blueprints.

  • Knowledge of purchasing and personnel management procedures.

  • Ability to work independently and provide self-motivation.

  • Ability to demonstrate basic supervisory skills.

  • Knowledge of property safety procedures to ensure the employee safety and a safe working environment.

  • Ability to prioritize, coordinate, and complete multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to effectively communicate.

  • Ability to compile, prepare, maintain detailed records and reports.

  • Ability to plan, lay out, and estimate proposed projects in terms of equipment, labor, and other associated costs.

  • Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and trade regulations.

  • Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.

  • Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.

This role provides supervision for incarcerated individuals and requires a high level of judgment and care.
