Position Summary:

The Staff Physical Therapist will deliver optimal patient care by providing prescribed Physical Therapy programs in the educational and home setting.   

Key/Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and provides children adaptive equipment and lower extremity splints; planning includes short term and long-term use.

  • Modifies treatment program to ensure achieving students’ maximal capabilities.

  • Coordinates student program with other services.

  • Keeps up-to-date, accurate student records as per department regulations.

  • Relays information to student , family and professionals.

  • Arranges for student coverage during planned absences.

  • Provides direct physical therapy services in various settings including but not limited to the PT gym (including community, playground, home, and therapeutic pool).

  • Participates in IEP meetings as required and submit quarterly and annual reports as required by regulation.

  • Follows all standards of practice for Physical Therapy and regulatory requirements set by the New York State Department of Health and Board of Education, and other governing bodies.

  • Adheres to all school and department standards, policies and procedures.

  • Attends staff meetings, departmental meetings, classroom meetings and other meetings as assigned.

  • Records appropriate billing documentation.

  • Participates in therapeutic adjunct programs and collaborates with other related service and academic programs.

  • Provides in-service training, fill out trip and home visit slips, and document departmental in-services and daily notes.

  • Attends continuing education and in-service education sessions to enhance ability to perform duties and to maintain license.

  • Remains informed regarding changes and updates in physical therapy practice and legal requirements.

  • Performs all other duties , as assigned

Available Shifts

  • 7:45 AM - 3:15 PM

  • 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM

    Minimum Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree of Science in Physical Therapy or equivalent required.

  • NYSED license to practice Physical Therapy required.

    Preferred Qualification Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Physical Therapy or Doctor of Physical Therapy preferred.  

  • Certification for Pediatric Clinical Specialist and Neurodevelopment Treatment preferred.  

  • Two years or more of Pediatric Physical Therapy experience preferred. 

  • Research experience preferred.

  • Clinical experience with children with brain based disorders and neurological involvement preferred.

  • NDT training, experience preferred.

    Compensation Range:

  • $75,000 to $82,000 per year

Our Roots:

YAI was launched in February of 1957 out of a small school in Brooklyn, New York. Initially staffed by Co-Founders Bert MacLeech and Pearl Maze MacLeech alone, their pilot program served just seven people. According to Bert, from its very beginning YAI has been dedicated to providing innovative services for the I/DD (intellectual and/or developmental disabilities) community. MacLeech envisioned a, “total life adjustment approach, emphasizing personal growth, social responsibility, employment goals, and the development of independence for the individual.” At a time when institutional living was the norm for people with I/DD, this vision was nothing short of revolutionary.

YAI Today:

Today, YAI has a team of over 4,000 employees and supports over 20,000 people in the I/DD community. This extraordinary growth shows the ongoing need for these important services, and YAI’s success in offering them. YAI supports people with autism, Down syndrome, and Cerebral Palsy, among others. Operating throughout Downstate New York and Northern New Jersey, YAI now offers more than 300 programs for people of all ages.
