The Material Specialist is responsible for the daily work in the distribution process and assists in the transport bookings for shipments made from the Lexington, TN facility. The Material Specialist will be the main point of contact for managing the movement of Gas & Diesel inventory via forklift from packing, to shipping lanes and finally to transports. The Material Specialist will also schedule coordination, resolving workflow problems and resolve other non-supervisory challenges.

The Material Specialist will contribute to customer satisfaction by ensuring timely and accurate transport bookings and safe plant movement and loading of Gas & Diesel inventory. The aim is to reach operation excellence by ensuring Volvo Penta meets its customers’ expectations.

Core Responsibilities:

· Plan and process shipments of orders to domestic and international customers.

· Operate a forklift in the staging and loading of Gas & Diesel inventory to transport.

· Maintain files of shippers and other necessary documentation.

· Verify and audit shipments to customers as well as identify and correct errors.

· Process and load transport for TL, LTL, ocean container and small packaging using a forklift.

· Build strong relationships and trust with customers (internal and external); can be counted on for accuracy and reliability.

· Performs other duties, tasks and responsibilities as assigned by management to support Volvo Penta goals and objectives.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

· Ability to utilize Microsoft software products (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.).

· Skilled in transport optimization.

· Physical capability for repetitive bending and lifting.

· Ability to operate a forklift.

· Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and written.

· Ability to work in a team environment effectively.

· Service-minded, flexible, and good cooperation skills.

· Requires training and operation of JDE and RF Smart handheld.

· Ability to lift upwards of 70lbs.

Education and Experience:

· Minimum 2 years post high school, formal education; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Experience in operating a forklift.

· 2-3 years shipping and distribution experience.

· Excellent computer skills a must.
