Summary:

Under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse, the behavioral health patient safety attendant will provide care to a patient by sitting with and diligently watching the patient while meeting the established criteria in accordance with established methods and procedures of the Medical Center.

Responsibilities:

Patient safety. Consistently and independently maintains a safe, clean environment for patients. Reports maintenance needs. Utilizes universal precautions. Consistently adheres to established BBMC Close Observation Patient and Suicidal Patient Protocols. Continuously observes patients\' behavior, mental status and activities, notifies RN of any changes or unusual occurrences. Documentation. Consistently and independently documents patient observation data on the Close Observation Supervision Record. Reports. Gives accurate report to oncoming shift. Aware of changes in patient care plan. Provides patient with explanations as necessary but does not counsel or provide opinions. Demonstrates behaviors in line with our organizational values. Maintains visual observation at all times, dedicates attention to observing patients with no outside distractions. Verbally redirects patients. Immediately summons nursing staff for required patient assistance, reporting any changes observed in the condition or behavior of the patient. Other duties as assigned. Escorts patients when leaving the unit for activities and scheduled tests. Demonstrates the ability to set limits for patients and other de-escalation techniques.
