Job Details: This position is located in the Nursing Department of the LA Veterans Home in Jackson, Louisiana.

* This is a 12-hour shift with rotating weekend position. Current need is for the 6:00 pm to 6:30 am Night Shift*

Our Mission : The mission of the Louisiana Veterans Homes is primarily serving the Veteran population of Louisiana through the provision of medical, restorative, and rehabilitative services in an atmosphere of respect and compassion. The primary objective of our home is to provide quality nursing care to eligible veterans with the ultimate goal of returning the veterans to the highest possible levels of physical and mental capacity.

Special Entrance Pay Rate:

LPN 1: 0- 1 year of experience: $19.48/hour

LPN 2: 1- 3 years of experience: $20.84/hour LPN 3: 3 years or more of experience: $22.30/hour

* ADDITIONAL INCENTIVE PAY OF $7.00 PER HOUR FOR EVERY HOUR WORKED*

This position participates in a Career Progression Group (CPG) and may be filled as a LPN 1/2/3. The level at which the vacancy is filled will be determined by the qualifications of the candidate selected. This position provides the opportunity to advance within this job series. [

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Possession of a valid Louisiana license or temporary permit to practice practical nursing or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state.

Job Concepts

Function of Work:

To provide basic nursing care to patients/clients in stable conditions and in predictable situations in accordance with the Professional Nurses Practice Act.

Level of Work:

Entry.

Supervision Received:

Close from a Registered Nurse or Practical Nurse of a higher level.

Supervision Exercised:

May exercise functional supervision over paraprofessional nursing personnel.

Location of Work:

Statewide--health care facilities; correctional facilities.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from Practical Nurse--Licensed, 2 by the absence of journeyman level assignments and independent performance of duties.

Examples of Work

Implements selective aspects of the nursing care plan, i.e., comfort, hygiene, safety measures, nutrition, etc. under progressively more generalized supervision from a Registered Nurse or Practical Nurse of a higher level.

Observes patients for changes in physical and/or mental status or behavior and reports significant changes.

Obtains specimens for laboratory testing as assigned.

Takes vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.

Administers medication and treatments in accordance with policies and procedures.

Transcribes physicians' orders and records medication and patient's condition on patient's charts and other records.

Receives and gives change of shift reports.

Requests stock drugs, medications, and supplies as assigned.

Administers CPR in emergency situations.

Admits, transfers, and discharges patients.

Gathers information about patient's past and current physical and mental status.

May administer oral and parenteral medication as prescribed by the physician and documents procedure.

Applies dressings, ointments, and other treatments as ordered and documents procedure.

Assists physicians with routine examinations and treatments.

Bathes, feeds, and makes patients comfortable.

Performs individual and group health teaching as assigned.
