Copywriter I supports Copywriter II and Creative Design Team in developing marketing campaigns and advancing the voice of Meijer throughout marketing properties. This individual is responsible for proofreading and editing all materials published by the Marketing Team, ensuring the final product is consistent, clear to the customer and free of errors. The Copywriter I should have a command of the English language and a working understanding of brand tone and creative voice variations across mediums, including weekly ad, digital, social, video, radio, out-of-home, print and in-store. This role works closely with internal and external design/writing teams, marketing and merchandising to ensure projects deliver on brand and business objectives and deadlines.

What You'll be Doing:

  • Supports Copywriter II and Creative Design Team in developing marketing campaigns and advancing the voice of Meijer throughout marketing properties.

  • Proofread and copy edit 1st first and final pages for all Meijer Weekly Ads, and work within existing Weekly Ad blocks to follow standards for hierarchy and content requirements.

  • Proofread and copy edit all sign, direct mail, billboard, digital and corporate customer-facing and internal marketing projects to ensure language is accurate and meets brand standards.

  • Writes, edits, proofs, and optimizes promotional content that drive customer action and business growth.

  • Creates, maintains and follows corporate and brand copy guidelines in partnership with Copywriting Team and Legal Team, including over 100 corporate standards and tactical glossary.

  • Acts as a liaison between Marketing and/or Legal for content issues.

  • Resolves revisions directly with project requestor, including style and text inconsistencies, inaccurate details and other grammatical changes as needed.

  • Maintains awareness of new words or phrases coming into popular usage with a view to ensure they're appropriate within brand tone and for customer messaging.

  • Verifies the accuracy of dates, statistics, and other specific details and information, as needed, across over 100 active promotions in our marketing toolkit.

  • Responsible for maintaining brand copy guidelines across all media channels.

What You Bring with You (Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Marketing, Advertising or related field

  • 2 years journalism, writing, advertising, marketing or related field.

  • Skilled in Microsoft office suite.

  • Ability to work within project management software.

  • Strong abilities in spelling, grammar, punctuation and sentence structure.

  • Familiar with AP Style.

  • Detail-oriented and flexible; excellent time management skills to meet deadlines consistently.

  • Ability to work fluidly between cross-functional groups and independently on a regular basis.

  • Ability to work under deadline and accuracy pressure.

  • Eye and memory for copy/content detail, ensuring both error-free and consistent customer messages

  • Interpersonal skills to question or correct the work of others.

  • Desire to work in a team environment to share work and to collectively solve issues.
