DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: Job Summary The Wireless Research group within InterDigital's Research and Innovation (R&I) organization is responsible for leading InterDigital's next generation wireless research projects. Our charter is to identify future technology needs, develop and learn from proof-of-concept prototypes, and innovate around a system focus. Today, our team is at the leading edge of 6G research.

We are seeking a highly motivated research & engineering intern to work in our team to analyze, design, and implement next generation 6G mobile networks and devices. These intelligent networks self-optimize to deliver advanced services to users and devices that are tailored to content, context, and connectivity. The selected candidate will research an innovation topic, including designing, implementing, and verifying a proof-of-concept prototype. Potential research topics include areas, such as: Distributed Edge Computing, Decentralized Networking, Device Trust, Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technology in wireless networks, Converged Computing and Communications, and AI-enabled Networking & Services. The selected candidate will be fully integrated into a research team, with potential opportunity to contribute to open-source software projects, serve as an inventor on patent filings, contribute to global networking standards (3GPP, ETSI, IETF, IEEE), etc.

Responsibilities:  * Work in a team to develop innovative networking protocols, services, and solutions for future 6G distributed communications and computing systems and devices.  * Review and analyze research publications and networking standards.  * Responsible for researching selected innovation topics, which are discussed and agreed in the team. Documenting work which may include design & protocol descriptions, block diagrams, sequence diagrams, source code, test procedures, and simulation results.  * Design, implement, and test novel wireless network solutions, protocol software, user-interfaces, and applications, including utilizing InterDigital's AdvantEDGE  * Help the team in writing external publications, such as a conference paper, standard contributions, etc.

Qualifications:  * PhD/MS Graduate Student, studying in Telecommunications / Network Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.  * Knowledge or course work in wireless protocols (3GPP, IEEE 802.11, etc.)  * Knowledge or course work in networking concepts and protocols (e.g., IP, TCP, HTTP, VLAN, etc.)  * Programming experience in one or more of the following:  * Proficient in Go and/or Java and web-programming (JavaScript, REST, JSON, etc.).  * Proficient in C or C++, a plus.  * Database experience (SQL, no SQL, etc.), a plus.  * Proficient in scripting languages (e.g., python, bash), a plus.  * Knowledge or course work in Cloud / Edge Computing, AI/ML, or Distributed Ledgers/Blockchain.  * Research experience in edge computing and/or edge intelligence is a plus.  * Research experience in trustworthy 5G/6G, trusted computing, and/or network and system security is a plus.  * Knowledge in Virtualization, including Kubernetes and Docker is a plus.  * Publications in relevant top conferences and journals is a plus.
