Defense Security Service COMPUTER SCIENTIST in Cayce, South Carolina

Summary DCSA's Office of Research and Innovation is looking for a Computer Scientist (Data Scientist/Data Analyst) with specialized experience in: Software engineering, for example, coding in Python or C#; Data collection, data warehousing, and database systems such as SQL; Data analysis, data modeling, and machine learning with AWS/Azure cloud services. This requires a change agent with the ability to provide guidance to senior leadership and support to technical and non-technical agency personnel. Responsibilities This is a temporary position NTE 4 years; under Merit procedures may become permanent without further competition. As a COMPUTER SCIENTIST you will be responsible for the following duties: Application of complex analytic skills will be required to identify, propose, develop, and evaluate computer science oriented solutions to national security problem sets. Working closely with scientists, engineers, operational experts, and academic partners to identify requirements and to propose, develop, test, and validate solutions. Participate in scientific initiatives involving human subject testing, experimental methodology, sensor evaluation, signal acquisition/analyses, computer programming, and project management will be required. Serve as lead Computer Scientist, Project Manager, or Test and Evaluation Support Scientist for one or more supported research and development projects. Develop and implement changes to technical designs/projects and technical management processes based on operational efficiency, research, or maturity of the emerging technologies. Evaluate / analyze relevant R&D activities and make recommendations on integration, acceptance, or collaboration conducted within the Office, Directorate, Agency, IC, or DoD. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications This position has a Basic Requirement for the 1550: Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. NOTE: Failure to provide transcripts will result in you being rated ineligible for this position. Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job, but will clearly demonstrate past experience in the application of the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have specialized experience sufficient to demonstrate that you have acquired all the competencies necessary to perform at a level equivalent in difficulty, responsibility, and complexity to the next lower grade GS/GG 12 in the Federal service and are prepared to take on greater responsibility. Applicant must have directly applicable experience that demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job, but will clearly demonstrate past experience in the application of the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position. Generally, this would include one year or more of such specialized experience. Specialized experience for this position includes: Software engineering (coding) in Python or C#; Data collection, data warehousing, and database systems such as SQL; Data analysis, data modeling, and machine learning; AWS and/ or Azure cloud services; Work in a team and communicate with technical and non-technical people. Specifically you will be evaluated on the following competencies: 1.Computer Languages Knowledge of computer languages and their applications to enable a system to perform specific functions. 2. Data Management Knowledge of the principles, procedures, and tools of data management, such as modeling techniques, data backup, data recovery, data dictionaries, data warehousing, data mining, data disposal, and data standardization processes. 3. Technical Competence Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on the job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues. 4. Project Management Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance.
