Cornell Cooperative Extension SNAP-Ed Lead Nutritionist/Program Manager - Canton, NY in Canton, New York

This position will serve as the Lead Nutritionist for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of St. Lawrence County and will work under the direction and supervision of the Health and Nutrition Issue Leader. This position will provide direction, organization, coordination, and management of assigned aspects of the SNAP-ED Program including but not limited to workshop development, professional development opportunities for staff, evaluation quality assurance, policy, systems, and environmental change initiatives, social media and digital learning outreach efforts, and communications with key community partners, stakeholders and policy makers. The position will also implement SNAP-ED programming from a menu of existing SNAP-ED educational programs and program activities. This position will be responsible for the delivery of established SNAP-ED programming to community groups, and will deliver other established SNAP-ED programming and activities, both on-site and off-site, in the community, in accordance with the Nutrition Program Area’s Plan of Work. This position will also assist the Issue Leader with all administrative and marketing aspects of the SNAP-ED Program, to include the policy, systems and environmental change initiatives in collaboration with other SNAP-ED Nutritionists in the North Country Region. The Senior Nutritionist will directly supervise the Association Subject Educator I (3), and Association Interns in the Health and Nutrition Program Area, and will provide leadership, mentoring, and observations for the SNAP-ED Program staff across the North County.

POSITION DETAILS:

This position is a full-time, exempt position - 100% FTE. The annual salary for this position is $58,500.00 to $59,000.00 commensurate with experience. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance, retirement, vacation, sick and personal leave.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in the preferred fields of Nutrition, Health Education or Public Health, Dietetics, Community and Behavioral Health, or Nursing. This includes persons certified as RD, RDN, CCN, CNS, and RN as well as other individuals with coursework in nutrition and/or health education with training and experience to communicate nutrition and obesity prevention topics.

  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.

  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.

  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in the preferred fields of Nutrition, Health Education or Public Health, Community and Behavioral Health, Registered Dietician, or Nursing. This includes persons certified as RD, RDN, CCN, CNS, and RN as well as other individuals with coursework in nutrition and/or health education with training and experience to communicate nutrition and obesity prevention topics.

    Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Program Responsibilities:

Program Development - 5%

  • Apply Health & Nutrition subject matter knowledge to provide input in the development of educational strategies for assigned SNAP-ED programs to include: workshop development, policy, systems, and environmental change initiatives, social media and digital learning outreach efforts, and other Health & Nutrition Educational Programs.

  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders and working groups to advance the development of targeted policy, systems and environmental change program initiatives.

  • Influence the creation of program materials to address the needs of the youth and family participants in the above assigned SNAP-ED programs.

Program Delivery - 25%

  • Occasionally implement innovative SNAP-ED programming and outreach activities in support of the Heath & Nutrition Program’s efforts as identified in the established plan of work.

  • Assist in providing information to bring awareness to the public in the form of impact statements, articles for progress/annual reports, and news releases, etc.

  • Utilize program materials and educational framework to teach a targeted number of both adult and youth participants in the SNAP-ED Program. The target is 20 nutrition activities per month and act as an integral member to assist the team to reaching monthly direct participants goals.

  • Apply subject matter knowledge to create lesson plans to meet program objectives.

  • Effectively utilize all forms of mass media, including social media, for the innovative delivery of Health & Nutrition educational programs.

  • Work to foster acceptance of the Health and Nutrition Program, methods, and policies while addressing community and individual needs and considering diverse audiences.

  • Serve as a team member and cooperate with the entire Association and Health & Nutrition Program staff to achieve Association program delivery goals.

Program Evaluation - 5%

  • Implement program evaluation as designed.

  • Interact with program participants to obtain evaluation data, to include: evaluating effectiveness of classes and instructors within program areas for all programs offered.

  • Analyze program data, and based on that analysis, assist in making improvements in programming.

  • Based on program parameters, interpret evaluation data to constituents as appropriate.

Administrative Responsibilities:

Direction - 25%

  • Plan the structure and delivery for SNAP-ED educational program goals with discretion via various methods. Educational programs will include, but not be limited to: policy, systems, and environmental change program initiatives, social media and digital learning outreach efforts, direct education and tabling events, and other Health & Nutrition Educational Programs administered by Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of St. Lawrence County.

  • Anticipate and project assigned Health and Nutrition program expenses with discretion.

  • Assist the Health and Nutrition Issue Leader with proposed budget for assigned programs based on established financial guidelines and/or procedures, provide information to the overall SNAP-ED budget process, and allocate budget amounts for assigned programs.

  • Plan fund development goals and objectives and be an active participant on the grant writing team as necessary for the development of grant applications to secure funding for ongoing/expanded programming efforts.

  • Assist the Health and Nutrition Issue Leader to plan effective strategic marketing and mass media efforts in the promotion of the SNAP-ED program, public affairs, events and functions.

  • Provide program related information to the staffing plan development process.

Management - 30%

  • Provide guidance and management for the assigned SNAP-Ed programs and program activities to ensure they conform to the Association’s Plan of Work. Educational program and program activities will include policy, systems, and environmental change program initiatives, social media and digital learning outreach efforts, direct education and tabling events, and other Health & Nutrition Educational Programs administered by Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of St. Lawrence County.

  • Provide management of marketing initiatives for assigned SNAP-ED and Nutrition & Health programs.

  • Solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise in the assigned Health and Nutrition programs utilizing appropriate policies and procedures, as needed.

  • Allocate resources to accomplish Association program objectives within the assigned Health & Nutrition programs.

  • Monitor assigned Health & Nutrition programs income/expenses to ensure spending is within the program budget constraints.

  • Provide management (including recruitment and selection) and supervision (including guidance, performance feedback and annual performance reviews) to designated staff in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocol, and provide regular staffing updates to the Health & Nutrition Issue Leader and/or Executive Director as required.

  • Provide mentoring and observations for the SNAP-ED program staff.

  • Monitor and schedule staff time to ensure program need is met.

Coordination/Operation - 5%

  • Obtain evaluation data and program needs assessments from program participants based on existing evaluation framework and guidelines.

  • Provide complex administrative support to prepare materials for report submission to meet funding requirements (monthly, quarterly and yearly).

  • Coordinate program referrals and ongoing outreach efforts in accordance with established Plan of Work.

  • Coordinate effective marketing strategies in the promotion of programming efforts to include, but not limited to: print media, news media, social media, and multi-media efforts.

  • Organize and coordinate activities related assigned programs.

  • Provide administrative support for fund development and grant writing activities as identified.

  • Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts.

  • This position may require the transport of program participants and/or program materials and resources in performing position responsibilities.

Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%

  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.

  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Extension programs and other duties as assigned.
