All assigned areas of the Hospice Residence are cleaned, maintained, and serviced in a safe and efficient manner using various cleaning supplies, agents, and equipment.

Job Description:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  1. Follows work schedule and performs all daily and weekly job tasks in the assigned work area to meet department standards of cleanliness.
  • a. Understands and follows department procedures at all times.

  • b. Follows instructions and responds to work assignments from the manager or lead person all of the time.

  1. Provides thorough cleaning and restocks all supplies in assigned work areas (patient rooms, restrooms, bathrooms, common areas, etc.).
  • a. Efficiently manages work time, and completes work scheduled by the end of the shift.

  • b. Inspects work area and performs necessary cleaning tasks independently.

For staff working in patient car areas only (c, d, e, and f):

  • c. Arranges work schedule accordingly to assist with the timely cleaning of discharged beds.

  • d. Ensures that cleaned rooms are well organized, with the correct number of chairs in the room and a patient guide at the bedside at all times.

  • e. Assists Nursing staff with keeping laundry bags emptied.

  • f. Moves equipment to and from patient rooms to storage areas.

  1. Cleans floors by dry mopping and damp mopping them, including edges and corners. Moves and cleans behind equipment, etc., as needed.

  2. Takes the initiative to make sufficient time for a low and high dusting of assigned areas. Keeps vents dust-free.

  3. Removes trash from assigned work areas at the beginning and end of shift.

  4. Spot washes walls or carpets as needed.

  5. Polishes stainless steel, brass, and other smooth surfaces according to work schedule.

  6. Maintains department equipment and keeps all equipment clean and safe. Notifies supervisor of any equipment problems or unsafe working conditions.

  7. Maintains adequate par level of supplies in floor closets and on carts at all times. Maintains a neat, organized, housekeeping cart and closet.

  8. Attends hospital/department in-services and meetings as required

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Cleaning experience in a hospital or industrial setting, with experience in sanitation principles and techniques preferred.

  2. Ability to read and write in order to understand directions and warnings on cleaning supplies and various postings, and to complete logs.

  3. Interpersonal skills to be pleasant and courteous and interact with patients, visitors, and all levels of hospital staff.

  4. Ability to pay close attention to detail for a majority of the workday.

Physical Requirements & Environment:

  1. Works in a clean, well-lit, well-ventilated area for a majority of the workday.

  2. Spends approximately 95% of the time doing manual labor that includes: walking, stooping/bending, kneeling, pushing/pulling, climbing (including stairs), and lifting objects for a majority of the work day.

  3. Some exposure to infectious hazardous materials and contact with water and cleaning and disinfecting solutions.
