Guthrie Painter II - Plant Services - Full Time in Binghamton, New York
Position Summary:
The Painter II applies preparatory materials, paints, and stains to surfaces of walls, ceilings, equipment, and furniture. The Painter II prepares and applies appropriate materials to signage and irregular surfaces such as parking lots, streets, and athletic play areas. This role also inspects the quality of applications and assists with the management of project productivity and material costs.
Qualifications:
Must have one or more of the following:
Graduate of trade school and 3 years' relevant experience
5 years' relevant experience
Other equivalent combination of relevant education or experience

Review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and solve practical problems.
Ability to utilize appropriate tools, equipment, materials and application techniques common to the painting trade
Knowledge of text and display requirements for signage applications
Knowledge of construction, building codes and applicable regulations sufficient to satisfactorily perform painting tasks
Understand and apply industry hazard and safety precautions
Responsibilities:
Install, repair and maintain painting components – 70%
Applies protective and decorative coats of paint, varnish, lacquer and related materials to interior and exterior surfaces of buildings, furniture, equipment and other property
Prepares surfaces by washing, scraping, sanding, torching and/or smoothing prior to applying finishing materials
Installs, repairs, and maintains drywall, wall texturing, vinyl wall coverings and ceiling acoustic texturing
Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required
Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with building and safety regulations
Inspects quality of all applications, ensuring customer satisfaction
Monitors productivity and efficient use/disposal of materials and project waste
Maintains vehicle, tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating condition.
Maintains existing paint surfaces by matching/tinting appropriate paint products
Determines appropriate color for new or replacement applications through consultation with customers
Maintains equipment and keeps work areas clean and safe
Properly stores, cleans and disposes of all supplies and equipment used according to departmental policies and procedures
Safely handles and appropriately disposes of paints, stains, preparatory and undercoating materials and other hazardous materials
Operates compressors, striping machines, sandblasters, spray equipment, and other small power equipment.
Operates heavy lift equipment including scissors, and boom swing stage to heights of 80 feet
Erects various types of scaffolding, staging, ladders, and planks to reach surfaces of work area for Painters and others
Creation and application of graphics and signage layouts according to DOT, Safety, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements to meet state and federal regulations
Special Projects – 30%
Participates in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars, as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions
Assist and participate in special projects as assigned
Other duties as assigned
Provides additional support and training to team members in basic paint trade practices as needed
Pay Rate ranges from $16.54 - $25.80 per hour.
