The Manufacturing Engineer for Nondestructive Inspection (NDI) implements and maintains well defined, documented, and controlled Ultrasonic Transmission (UT) NDI processes using automated equipment for aerospace structures manufactured from advanced composite materials.  This engineer is responsible for the overall NDI process and work cells except for the actual NDI inspection techniques and methods.  Works cooperatively with NDI Inspectors and the NDI L3 Engineers to optimize the process for quality, cost and throughput and addresses other functions that affect product performance and inspection proficiency.  Must have strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.  Applies theoretical knowledge and engineering techniques to the solution of NDI engineering production problems.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: * Maintain Current NDI process documentation and assets and manage the changes in Windchill, SAP and associated systems. * With equipment engineers, document NDI machine limits and capability combined with holding fixtures and efficient set ups for inspection. * Create Compliance Matrices for NDI requirements. * Identify and contribute to creating efficient fixtures for holding product in NDI machines. * Maintain and create scan surfaces using 3 view for Matec. * Provide CATIA model interrogation for NDI standard creation and technical data sheets. * Ensure Calibration Compliance for all NDI equipment (L3 signoff) * Ensure NDI area has required hardware and tooling to run efficiently, and work cells are set up for efficient operation. * Manage production readiness/process owner reviews to ensure 100% on-time manufacturing starts. * Create and maintain processes that meet operation's labor and cycle time targets. * Utilize SPC and MSA to monitor NDI inspection process. * Meet first pass yield targets. * Create and maintain process PFMEAs. * Support cause and corrective action investigations.

Experience and Skills: * Minimum 5 years' experience in manufacturing or quality engineering or related discipline. * Experience in developing and maintaining manufacturing processes and basic knowledge of lean and SPC. * Must be able to communicate effectively with NDI Technicians, Engineering, and Supervision on technical matters or test results. * Strong computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Prefer composite production experience (Layup, cure, machining, NDT, paint, assembly) * Prefer a good understanding of the UT machine functions and be able to troubleshoot issues and provide solutions to issues, ensuring production needs are met. * Prefer general knowledge and understanding of NDI UT inspections. Day Monday-Thursday 7am-530pm

  • BS/BA in Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Equivalent (AE/CE/IE)

    * NDI-UT Level 1 Certification preferred, but not required.
