About You and this Role

In this role, you will serve as theProcess Safety Focal Point/Improvement Managerfor theSR-1 Ethylene Crackerlocated atDow's Sabine River Operationssite inOrange, Texas.

This Cracker is the newest member of the Dow Ethylene fleet and this role will have the opportunity to help with development of gap analysis and strategies to enhance the process safety and bring the SR-1 cracker up to Dow standards. This asset will see an estimated $100MM in investment over the next 5 years in addition to requiring technology and facility assessments that will set the strategy for decades to come. Process Safety Focal Points (PSFP) serve as the Plant Resource on Process Safety related issues. This role operates as a focal point for everyone in the plant on key issues relating to Process Safety requirements and guidelines. This includes providing a general knowledge of the Dow Loss Prevention Principles, Process Safety Guidelines and Standards. Works closely with the Process Safety Technology Leader assigned to the technology to provide proper interpretation and guidance of the process safety mandatory requirements and recommended actions. Works closely with the Process Safety and Product Tech Centers, the Reactive Chemicals Technical Resource, and the Reactive Chemicals Coordinator to assure compliance and leveraged implementation of the Most Effective Technology as defined by the Tech Centers.

Improvement Managers serve as the key manufacturing representative and project manager to drive projects that will improve the safety, reliability and growth of Dow’s assets.

Responsibilities

  • Working with the Process Safety and Tech Center focal points, utilizes a generalized knowledge of Dow’s Loss Prevention Principles and Process Safety Guidelines and Standards to define and document any plant gaps in the plant design and operating practices versus Dow Process Safety mandatory requirements.

  • Leads Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) reviews and Process Hazard Assessments (PHA) for the unit and projects.

  • Works closely with the plant and Technology Process Safety Contact to make sure the generalized knowledge of the Loss Prevention Principles is properly understood and applied. This may require the utilization of detailed Process Safety consultation and expertise in certain areas.

  • Provides overall management of the gap closure efforts in such a way as to achieve long term compliance with the Dow Process Safety Requirements.

  • Enters the gap and closure plan in the Dow Event and Action Tool and periodically updates and issues progress reports.

  • Serves as the Man Rep/Project Manager on key projects to close safety, reliability and operability gaps.

  • Works with the Technology Center to make sure the Process Safety Most Effective Technology is implemented in a leveraged and standardized manner within the facility.

  • Provides Process Safety advice on plant changes and projects and brings in the in-depth consulting advice from the Process Safety and Product Technology Centers as appropriate.

  • Participates in and helps prepare for the Process Safety reviews and projects.

  • Supports the development and leveraging from the Tech Center training on Process Safety for the plant.

  • Assists in developing and achieving area or plant Process Safety goals.

  • As required participates in investigations of Process Safety incidents.

  • Coordinates the review of Process Safety related management of change.

  • Serves as the communication focal point for the Process Safety Technology Center at the small or single plant sites.

  • Lead and support plant continuous improvement activities for the facility which may include serving as manufacturing representative.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering.

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience (i.e., engineering, manufacturing or related)

  • Ability to work comfortably and safely at elevated heights. Candidates must be familiar with, or willing to undergo training in, the proper usage and maintenance of safety equipment to ensure safe movement and operations at heights.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
