Shift: Shift 4

Work Schedule: 8 Hr (6:00:00 AM - 11:00:00 PM)

Summary:

Provides timely and accurate pharmaceutical care, dispensing of medications, including monitoring drug therapies and provision of drug information to patients, physicians and hospital staff. Supervises and directs support personnel. May be required to assume the role of the pharmacist in charge of a shift whenever the pharmacy supervisor is not in the department. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Required Job Qualifications:

• Illinois licensure as a Registered Pharmacist.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

• Minimum 1-year inpatient hospital experience.

• Pharm.D., BCPS, Illinois licensure as a Registered Pharmacist.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to lift/move 20-30 pounds.

• Ability to sit for 4+ hours at a time.

• Ability to stand while rounding on patients, verifying medications and compounding IVs for up to 4+ hours at a time.

• May be exposed to certain hazardous materials, including but not limited to chemotherapeutic agents.

Competencies:

• Perform data entry and pharmacotherapy analysis.

• Use Microsoft Office products.

• Work independently with minimal direct supervision.

• Set priorities and respond quickly to emergency requests.

• Handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule.

• Communicate effectively (orally and in writing).

Responsibilities:

• Prepares and dispenses medication orders according to established policies, procedures, and protocols:

• Evaluate all medications orders for appropriateness of the drug, dose, frequency, and route of administration; therapeutic duplication; real/potential allergies or sensitivities; real/potential drug interactions; renal function; other contraindications; variations from hospital criteria for use (if present); and other relevant medication related issues and concerns.

• Provides/assists with pharmacokinetic dosing of designated medications.

• Provide accurate and timely drug information to physicians, nurses and other health professionals and patients as needed.

• Detects and reports suspected adverse drug reactions accurately and in a timely manner.

• Documents all clinical activities and interventions accurately and completely.

• Dispense and maintain records of controlled substances in accordance with federal and state laws.

• Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department

• Supervises and directs pharmacy support personnel, verifying activities of pharmacy technicians.

• Works independently with minimal supervision. Organizes and prioritizes work assignments. Ensures pharmacy services are provided in a timely manner.

• Completes and documents inspections of all assigned medication storage areas at least monthly. Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs.

• Maintains competence required for current job title/position

• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
