Vanderbilt University IT Business Analyst (Hybrid) in Nashville, Tennessee

Position Summary:

The Business Analyst plays a pivotal role in the organization's success by bridging the gap between business needs and technological solutions. They work closely with stakeholders, including management, to understand their objectives, processes, and requirements. Subsequently, they translate this information into actionable insights and recommendations. The Business Analyst's analytical skills and problem-solving abilities are key drivers in informed decision-making and process improvement.

Digital Strategies and Transformation serves as the university’s digital vanguards, spearheading campus-wide IT initiatives, propelling the institution into the future, and coordinating innovation across campus to bring ideas to life through planning, execution, and strategic alignment between the business of Vanderbilt University, academia, research, and trending technologies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Requirement Gathering:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to elicit, analyze, document, and validate business requirements. This includes understanding the needs of various departments and translating them into clear and comprehensive specifications.

Data Analysis:

  • Collect, interpret, and analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and insights that can inform business decisions. Utilize various tools and methodologies to extract and process data.

Process Mapping:

  • Document current business processes and create process flowcharts to identify areas for improvement. Work with stakeholders to define future state processes.

Solution Design:

  • Develop and recommend effective solutions, including software applications, business process improvements, or system enhancements, to address business challenges and opportunities.

Stakeholder Communication:

  • Facilitate communication between business and technical teams, ensuring a common understanding of requirements and project objectives. Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders.

Project Management:

  • Assist in project planning and management, including defining project scope, goals, and deliverables. Monitor project progress and ensure that it aligns with business objectives.

Quality Assurance:

  • Responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of products or services by rigorously testing them against established standards and identifying and reporting any defects or issues. Play a critical role in maintaining high-quality deliverables and ensuring a positive customer experience.

Documentation:

  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate documentation of requirements, processes, and project-related materials.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Continuously monitor and assess business processes and systems, making recommendations for enhancements and optimizations.

Supervisory Relationships:

This position does not have supervisory responsibility, this position reports administratively and functionally to the Executive Director Digital Strategies & Transformation Executive Director.

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree is necessary.

  • Business analysis certifications (e.g., CBAP, CCBA), preferred.

Qualifications:

  • 3 years of relevant experience is necessary.

  • Experience with data visualization and reporting tools is necessary.

  • Proven experience in business analysis or a related field is necessary.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skill are necessary.

  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and methodologies is necessary.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills is necessary.

  • Knowledge of project management principles and tools is necessary.

  • Familiarity with various software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall) is necessary.

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a dynamic environment is necessary.
