Sr. Quality Engineer (Space Systems)

Position Profile:

The Senior Quality Engineer supports program quality initiatives. This role monitors Supply Chain, in coordination with Supplier Quality Engineer and ensures process control employment both internally and externally. This role leads root cause and corrective action activities, supports continuous improvement initiatives with ability to present results to customer and senior management. SQE assists in supporting company goals for program Quality and Delivery targets. SQE manages day to day activities with support of Inspection, Quality Specialists, and Junior Quality Engineers. Primary back up for the Quality Engineering Manager.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field of study

  • 5+ years’ of related experience as a Quality or Product Engineer in Aerospace/Space electronics manufacturing environment

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret Military, Commercial aircraft and Space level specifications and standards

  • Strong experience within a mature Quality Management System - AS9100, ISO9001, ISO/TS16949

  • Demonstrated experience with Special Processes -- critical finishes, chemical conversion, soldering, crimping, non-destructive and destructive analysis methods.

  • Experience in a Design environment, reading and understanding schematics, data analysis and procedure writing.

  • Strong verbal/written communication skills required for multi-faceted interactions with all levels of personnel within the organization, as well as outside agents, including but not limited to; vendors, suppliers, customers and governing agencies.

  • Strong computer literacy, with MS Office/PC expertise, and demonstrated experience with applicable systems, programs, equipment, etc.

  • Must be a US Citizen

Essential or Primary / Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform contract reviews for customers of varying complexity and quality requirements. Experience in legacy/commercial space fluid control systems is a plus.

  • Interact with high level customers through written and verbal methods external and internal to effectively communicate status and issues.

  • Lead cross functional teams in RCCA and CI activities to help solves problems and limit repeat failures.

  • Manage multiple high-level customers concurrently with limited guidance from management.

  • Bring initiatives and activities to closure in a timely manner through effective interaction with individuals, both internal and external to the Marotta organization (as required).

  • Support Program proposal, Kick-off and Gate review

  • Manage Drawing compliance review

  • Develop, Prepare, and Review Acceptance Data Packages

  • Manage SPC/trend analysis reporting

  • Develop product, process, approval plans

  • Manage all Quality aspects of Customer Scorecards for relevant programs, ensure accuracy of scorecards and disputing incorrect information as required.

  • Support Audits – Customer / Internal

  • Support customer inquiries, including requests for warranty support, lead corrective action activities

  • Work internally and externally to develop Risk Analysis and Mitigation plans

  • Promote the use of Quality tools, SPC, PFMEA, and MSA to reduce variability

  • Actively participate in cost reduction programs/initiatives related to scrap, rework and repair activities.

  • Provide guidance and training to internal personnel and suppliers to effectively execute Corrective Action Requests (inclusive of SCARs), Quality System requirements, Quality Alerts, Corrective/Preventive Actions (CAPA) implementation, change control and root cause analysis

  • Ensure effective communication with MCI Engineering, Operations, and Procurement to identify opportunities for quality and productivity improvements

  • Participate in the evaluation of supplier processes, collaborate with suppliers on process improvement and value enhanced opportunities (as required)

  • Maintain and continue to elevate relationships with Business Development, Engineering, Operations, Customer Service and all other facets of the company

  • Abide by all safety, quality, housekeeping and company policies/procedures to ensure compliance to various regulatory and internal system requirements

  • Foster to a positive and cooperative work environment through effective communication at all levels internal and external to the organization

  • Actively participate in team meetings, improvement initiatives/programs, etc. to provide constructive recommendations and initiate actions to support company initiatives/goals

  • Consistently demonstrate commitment to company values

  • Keep management informed of area activities and of any significant problems

  • Assume responsibility for related duties as required or assigned

Work Environment:

  • This job interacts both in a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, as well as environments inclusive of the appropriate eye, hearing and foot protection (as required).

  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are 8 hours, Monday through Friday. Overtime and weekend work may be required, as job duties demand.

  • Some travel may be expected for this position (0-5%)

This position is at our Montville, NJ corporate offices location.
