Department OverviewThe T2 post-sale engineering region encompasses the Northeastern US, specifically New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. The post-sale engineering team primarily operates remotely, with a few regional offices. Within the T2 region, there are three distinct teams responsible for the New England states, upstate New York, and New Jersey, including Long Island. The team comprises approximately 25-30 highly skilled engineers. The T2 region is characterized by a high level of activity and complexity, with numerous cutting-edge technology deployments, statewide public safety initiatives, and challenging project requirements. Note: This is a remote position with travel (25%- 50%) to support projects. The candidate MUST reside in or be open to relocation to NJ, NY, VT, CT, RI, MA, NH or ME.

Overview:

The T2 Team has an outstanding track record of success and strives to build long term relationships with our public safety customers and our work partners. The customer team comprises Sales, Project Management, System Engineering and System Technologist personnel working together in a high performance culture, often with demanding cycle times and high customer expectations. We focus on mission critical public safety communication and information systems.

While most of our systems are designed around the APCO Project 25 communications standard, our systems are meshed into a rich eco system of mobile and fixed video, CAD, NG911, Location Services, LMR - LTE and WIFI merged features, with new features and connections creating a seemingly limitless smart interface for public safety users and analysts. To carry all of this information we design and build reliable backhaul networks that include microwave, fiber, commercial networks (both wired and wireless). We design and deploy robust custom MPLS networks.

Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations:

The Region Systems Engineering Manager leads, motivates, and prepares the managers and their engineering teams within the region. The Region Systems Engineering Manager supports and drives the engineering teams by developing and using best practices to hit engineering project milestones on time or early. The engineering teams are responsible for all technical aspects of assigned projects within the region from award until system acceptance.

General Skills:

  • Managing, coaching, and mentoring engineering resources focused on requirements of a contract, project or program.
  • Manages the system engineering resources and activities across departments, functional or organizational areas.
  • Handles internal/external customer and/or supplier interface as required at a senior level.
  • Balances Business/Function success in support of total Motorola strategy.
  • Regularly interfaces with senior Motorola leadership, key internal/external organizations and governmental bodies.
  • Responsible for productivity and professional growth of assigned employees.
  • Responsible for customer satisfaction and quality of engineering deliverables within the scope of assigned activities.

Specific Knowledge/Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BSEE/BSCE preferred)
  • 12+ years of Systems Engineering Management experience
  • Experience in radio communication systems, radio propagation, RF, wireless or broadband/LTE
  • Working knowledge in IP networking and network design methodologies (Ethernet, TCP/IP, L2/L3, MPLS)
  • Experience directly working with end-user customers
  • Excellent communications skills and the ability to present complex topics to nontechnical audiences.
  • Self motivated and able to maintain focus in a pressured environment
  • Extensive knowledge in product, technology, services, customer operations and business complexities.
  • Requires collaboration and operational execution with other Motorola businesses or external entities.
  • Provides innovative and seasoned direction in area of expertise.
  • Manages activities with complex or conflicting legal requirements, technology requirements or cultures.
  • Accountable for and contributes towards profitability and/or cost containment by indirectly impacting the P&L through project work, research and development, tools development or functional management.
  • Develops and establishes operational policies within area managed, and delegates assignments.
  • Facilitates cross-functional, inter-department collaboration.
  • Coordinates activities and direction through highly matrixed relationships.
  • Manages operational and fiscal activities to include: staffing levels, budgets and financial goals.
  • Is recognized by peers and key work partners for engineering expertise, knowledge of business needs, knowledge of industry requirements, knowledge of customer operations, and ability to guide resources to obtain objectives.
