Student Transportation of America Diesel Mechanic Technician in Jacksonville, Florida

The Diesel Mechanic Technician, with general direction from the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor, provides a wide range of technical services on company diesel buses, vans, and automobiles. Also works under the direction of the Terminal Manger.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Performs thorough, accurate Preventative Maintenance inspections
Following schedules completes all required PM maintenance operations including lubrication, fluid changes, brake adjustments, and tire rotation
With direction from the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor, performs unscheduled maintenance as needed
Performs complex operations including engine, electrical, fuel, brake, and exhaust repairs and field tests. This requires interpreting and working from drawings, specifications and other technical materials
Performs emergency roadside services as needed
Inspection of equipment and diagnose mechanical defects
Document repairs and parts on work orders completely and accurately
Maintains tools and workplaces so that conditions are neat and orderly
Performs other duties as required
Emergency conditions may require on call service calls, extended hours, or weekend work flexibility
May, on occasion, be required to drive buses and vans to perform road tests etc.
Performs other duties as required
Physical Duties:
Ability to safely lift over 50 lbs.
Must be able to lift heavy equipment (up to 100lbs) including but not limited to, brake drums, tires, ladders, tool chests, floor jacks when necessary
Must be able to utilize a ladder and other elevation equipment to access the roof of buses and elevated light fixtures for repairs and maintenance
Must be able to operate bench grinder, torch, drill press, Jack and Jack stands, sawzall, oil pumps, power washer, parts cleaner and other hand tools required to perform work
Must be able to operate a replacement vehicle or utility truck
Must operate CDL and Non-CDL vehicles (buses and van) to perform road tests, as well as shuttle in an out of the garage for repairs and maintenance
Requirements
Qualifications:
A mechanic or diesel mechanic accreditation from a school or certification program
1+ years' experience as a diesel mechanic
Able to provide own hand tools required for regular maintenance
Ability to operate CDL and Non-CDL buses and vans
CDL permit or license is a plus!
