Position Description
PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Product Technologist is responsible for maintaining product measurement of product volume and quality within a geographic area. The Product Technologist works with customers evaluating claims, measurements, and calibration procedures. Also works with the Measurement/Operations Analyst to track and investigate over/short product volumes on pipelines and tank farms.
Metering Systems
Maintain an awareness and record of all problems, repairs, modifications, etc., of all metering systems in the area
Maintain complete calibration data on all provers
Recalibrate prover loops every five years or after any modifications are made
Review ticket database for equipment failures and notify appropriate maintenance personnel
Cup calibrate all area digital Wahl-test thermometers twice a year
Review the Turbine Meter Statistics Report monthly
Review daily the Stock Summary Report and the record of daily line activity
Check and revise count averages and coarse tolerances at each area as needed
Customer Claims
Assist Operations Managers or Operations Control Center in completing claims
Review all data and make a recommendation on the claim to the Measurement/Operations Analyst
Tanks
- Inspect and maintain measurement equipment used for tank measurement or water draw
Scraper Cycles
Coordinate all aspects of scrapers cycle within the assigned areas
Witness the loading, shooting and receiving of all scrapers to the extent possible
Sample the product stream at each receiving point
Product Specification Problems
Assist Operations Managers, Supervisors and the Operations Control Center with product specification problems
Provide oversight for the sampling and testing requirements of the Operations Manual
Corrosion
- Maintain records of the six-month corrosion coupon analyses
• Retrieve and prepare records for assisting Products (SE) Pipe Line Company and Owner Company Auditors • Special assignments/projects • Perform projects and other duties as assigned
**The preferred location for this position is at the Kinder Morgan Products Pipelines location in Greensboro, NC.
Position Requirements
Education
High School Graduate or equivalent
Prefer relevant 2 or 4 year degree
Good reading and mathematics skills
Experience/Specific Knowledge/Certifications/Licenses
Experience, knowledge, and understanding of procedures involved in operating and maintaining a liquid pipeline system
Prefer extensive knowledge of the Products (SE) Pipe Line system
Demonstrated initiative and self-motivation
Must have organizational skills to handle a variety of matters simultaneously
Must possess and maintain a Valid Drivers License
Compentencies/Skills
Must be able to effectively and cooperatively work with other people and take direction and supervision
Possess basic computer skills such as Word, Excel, email
Effectively communicate, orally and in writing, with coworkers, contractors, government officials and customers

Must be able to be on call and report as needed and be able to work extended hours as required in emergencies, equipment or service interruptions, and/or other related circumstances
