Biopharma is a specialty and global business with customers and competitors in the pharma space. It is a dynamic and rapidly growing field focusing on innovation.

As Head of Business Management - Biopharma, your role will involve leading and expanding the Biopharma Pharma Solutions business on a global scale, with a focus on business steering and ensuring end-to-end profitability. Additionally, you will be responsible for fostering a culture of leadership within the global business team. You will report directly to the VP of Business Management Pharma Solutions based in the US. This role will require regular interactions with key customers worldwide, including the US, Europe, Asia, and South America. You will also have regular interactions with plants in Geismar and Wyandotte, with occasional interactions with additional plants such as Ludwigshafen for R&D projects. Travel will be a significant component of this role, accounting for approximately 50% of your time.

As a Head of Business Management Biopharma, You Create Chemistry By...

  • Being a highly effective communicator and a cultural leader within the Biopharma business community and Senior Leadership team, driving people development and defining long-term growth strategy and execution plan. Additionally, you will be responsible for relationship-building and expanding the BASF Biopharma network.

  • Being responsible for the Biopharma chain (alpha code defined) and CM2*, translating the long-term strategy into mid-term tactics and generating proactive long-term strategy and short-term tactics.

  • Being accountable for defining and implementing Value Pricing Strategies, building, and right-sizing the Biopharma organization based on business potential, integrating price, volume, and transfer partner management to maximize cumulative long-term profit, understanding variable and fixed cost drivers, operational steering of production volume distribution in close alignment with supply chain, developing and owning product line strategies, and managing product life cycle.

  • Taking responsibility for indirect sales steering via the regional sales team and leading the Biopharma marketing team. You will be conducting an in-depth analysis and understanding of global and regional product markets, as well as a thorough understanding of the competitive landscape.

  • Aligning external collaboration activities with commercial strategic targets, supporting the generation of new business development (NBD) leads by expanding the BASF Biopharma network, presenting at conferences, and joining the sales team for selected customer visits. Additionally, you will be leveraging current centers of competence, expertise, and resources.

  • Steering indirect R&D activities, including understanding and capturing driving technologies and technical needs of our markets. Ensuring the strategic fit of the development portfolio and collaborations, guiding IP strategy, and offering support for development projects. Additionally, supports strategic ideation for portfolio growth.

  • Supporting competitor evaluation, defining product specifications, and establishing release criteria for existing products and new product developments. Provides technical support to production and supports continuous product quality improvement by initiating appropriate measures.

  • Ensuring the regulatory fit of existing and new Biopharma products and supporting the definition of the regulatory strategy for the Biopharma portfolio.
