Job ID360045 LocationDuluth Job FamilyStudent Services Full/Part TimeFull-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code8461ED Employee ClassCivil Service About the Job Cohort Navigator - 8461ED SS Pro 1-Student Engage & Dev The Center for American and Indian Health and Minority Health with the University of Minnesota Medical School, Duluth Campus (UMMSD), is hiring a Cohort Navigator (CN) to assist with a pilot project focused on retention of American Indian/Alaska Native students as they begin their studies at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College and transfer to the University of Minnesota - Duluth. The CN will serve as a student case manager, guiding students through their college coursework and research training and addressing any barriers to student success. The CN will meet each student once they are accepted to the program in late spring to review the coming year, including whether or not the student will need prematriculation coursework. The CN is responsible for helping the students enroll in the prematriculation courses and in their courses for their two years at Fond Du Lac Tribal and Community College (FDLTCC). The CN will meet weekly with each student and every other week with them as a group. A critical role for the CN is ensuring that students are on track to transfer to and graduate from UMD. The CN will provide academic monitoring, regular check-ins, retention activities, family support, financial aid counseling, and coordinate community cultural events and logistics for the seminar series. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Direct Student Support and Engagement 75% Oversee student recruitment into the program Collaborate with advisors, mentors and faculty to support student success Meet regularly with cohort members, individually and as a group. Respond to students' academic and/or personal barriers impeding student progress. Coordinate cohort events Program Management 25% Work with CAIMH research manager to collect data pertinent to student progress and evaluation of program Assist with development and implementation of Native Americans into Medicine summer research program Consult with community members, particularly Elders and cultural mentors, to better serve students Liaison between FDLTCC, UMMSD, and UMD. Qualifications Required: A combination of education and relevant experience to equal at least four years of experience in student support and higher education. Familiarity with Indigenous communities Preferred Familiarity with financial aid and admissions processes as well as student support services Familiarity with academic advising Demonstrated ability to manage projects and support students Be able to use various technological platforms, Microsoft software, and data management systems Salary: $60,000 About the Department At the Center of American Indian and Minority Health, we're working to make a positive impact on American Indian and Alaska Native health.
