MANAGER OF FLEET SERVICES
OFFICE OF PUBLIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION

Starting Salary: $86,520.00
Successful candidates must pass a drug screen and a background investigation. Persons offered employment must pass all pre-employment exams prior to appointment.
Under direction, the Manager of Fleet Services will serve as the direct contact for Police, Fire, OEMC, and OPSA vehicle management. OPSA will work with each of the departments to maintain all vehicles currently assigned to the Public Safety Departments and will be responsible for projecting future fleet needs. The Manager of Fleet Services under OPSA will be the main point of contact with DTI ensuring all vehicles are serviced, repaired, decommissioned, purchased, and accounted for. The Manager of Fleet Services will be responsible for putting together the year-to-year vehicle needs, and projected cost requirements based on each departments’ priorities. OPSA will be responsible for working with both the Office of Budget Management and DTI to secure funding and procure the vehicles. There are approximately 4,000 vehicles assigned to Police, Fire, OEMC, and OPSA.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Directs the implementation of the department’s vehicle management/fuel management system (M5/TRAX) to ensure that related vehicle transactions are accurately recorded and analyzed
Directs the collection and analysis of vehicle and fuel usage data of the City’s fleet of gasoline and diesel powered vehicles
Reviews and analyzes OPSAs vehicle usage and fuel expenditures to ensure cost efficiency and to recommend improvements on equipment deployments
Coordinates the maintenance of fuel inventories and distribution activities in order to provide appropriate fuel types and quantities at designated locations
Analyzes and recommends vehicle and equipment replacement schedules based on cost analysis of fuel economy, reliability and vehicle lifecycle
Coordinates and facilitates training for drivers to learn the most cost effective and environmental-friendly ways to utilize vehicles, equipment and related technologies
Reviews fueling costs and establishes goals in order to identify and track usage
Prepares administrative and budgetary reports on vehicle and fuel usage
Researches and recommends alternate fuel types, vehicles and equipment to encourage the use of sustainable energy sources
Additional duties may be required for this position.

HOURS: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
THIS POSITION IS EXEMPT FROM THE CAREER SERVICE.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Automotive Technology, Automotive Engineering Technology, Automotive Management or a directly related field, plus five years of work experience in the coordination and management of computerized inventory control systems of which three years of experience are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications
- A valid State of Illinois Driver’s License is required.
