The APN - NICU provides guidance and situational support to nursing staff and other disciplines. This person assists the program medical director with the development and implementation of program goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. Training, evaluation and competencies for this role are overseen by the Chief Administrative Officer.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Assumes responsibility for assessment, planning implementation and evaluation of the plan of care for a panel of patients and/or episodic needs according to professional and organizational standards for quality and productivity.

  2. Assesses total needs of patient population including pre-admission and post-discharge scenarios and continuing care needs.

  3. Collaborates with other health care disciplines within the medical center and community to develop effective patient care programs and to analyze cost-benefit and value.

  4. Identifies learning needs of patients and staff and collaborates with other team to determine priorities for educational programs. Participates in interdisciplinary education programs of the unit and provides clinical precepting for nursing students, nurse practioner students, medical students and others.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree in Nursing required.

  2. License Nurse Practitioner License required., and Certificate 1 Basic Life Support required., and Certificate 2 NRP required.

  3. 0-1 years related work experience required.

  4. DEA and MCS numbers for prescription writing practices. This is completed through credentialing.

  5. Licensed by the state of Massachusetts as Nurse Practitioner (RN/NP).

  6. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. 1-3 years previous NICU experience.

  2. Certification by the NCC the National Certification Corporation - The National Certification Corporation for the Obstetric, Gynecologic and Neonatal Nursing Specialties

  5. Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.

  6. Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.

  7. Team Work: Ability to lead and direct multiple collaborative teams for large projects or groups both internal and external to the Medical Center and across functional areas. Results have significant implications for the management and operations of the organization.

  8. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.

Age based Competencies:

Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Neonatal:Birth to 6 m.

Physical Nature of the Job:

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Job is physical in nature and employee needs to stand and/or move around through the majority of their shift.
