About the role: Boston Scientific is seeking a highly motivated Research & Development Engineering Fellow. The successful candidate will participate in the design and development of next generation medical devices. The R&D role will utilize a variety of new and proven technologies to deliver life-changing medical devices to patients and clinicians in support of BSC's mission. This candidate will work with a team to develop new implant products for the Cardiac Rhythm Group. These investments in new technology will drive a robust pipeline for Rhythm Management that will keep BSC in a market leadership position. Your responsibilities will include: Apply principles of Engineering, Physics, Material Science, and best practice methods and technologies to perform data driven development, optimization, and evaluation of novel or iterative designs based on customer and business needs. Drive decisions on materials and device performance with project teams. Apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to identify, evaluate, and/or develop novel materials; metallic, polymeric, composite, or exotic, for new applications or to better meet needs on existing device applications. Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to optimize performance of existing materials through design utilization and processing methods. Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to analyze materials problems and recommending corrective or alternative actions. Serves as a liaison between design engineering and internal or external materials science experts/consultants for applications and troubleshooting on materials-based issues. Analyzes materials and data, prescribes and conducts testing, troubleshoots and monitors materials performance to ensure quality control. Creates robust documentation of requirements, protocols, evaluations, reports, etc. by writing clear and concise documents and filing per approved procedures and standards. Tracks engineering effort through the established project tracking tools. Continuously improves process and work methodologies by interfacing with peers/cross-functional groups and analyzing activities to improve workflow and work processes. Review technical documents/publications, attend professional meetings, and interface with suppliers/vendors to stay current on the state of the art. Directs support personnel and project activities. Mentors engineers in materials engineering activities/methodologies and domain knowledge. Contributes to a strong team culture around high expectations and high performance Provides clear communication to stakeholders at key technical updates Required qualifications: BS in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or similar Required minimum years of work experience (primarily in medical device or related field): 12+ Years with BS, 10+ Years with MS Robust knowledge of materials and materials processes and applying them for design of Class II or Class III medical devices, assemblies, and components. Robust knowledge of materials evaluation methods. Strong organizational, communication and collaboration skills.
